"Flowers are the bright remembrances of youth; they waft us back, with their bland odorous breath, the joyous hours that only young life knows, ere we have learnt that this fair earth hides graves."
- Lady Marguerite Blessington, Countess of Blessington

It can be regarded an exotic flower, yet it can also be easily cultivated in our gardens. Its exotic, tropical look is bound to charm and impress. Amaryllis is among those flowers that can truly touch the very strings of a person’s heart. In what follows I wish to present some facts about this lovely and charming flower in Romania.
Amaryllis belongs to the genus of plant known as Belladonna Lily or naked ladies. The specie Amaryllis belladonna is native to the rocky southwest region of South Africa. It began to be cultivated at the beginning of the 18th century.

After this brief introduction, I suggest to know more about the planting and care of this flower. Basically you will need to follow some rules and success will be guaranteed.
First of all when you decide to plant amaryllis, make sure to choose a bulb which has some roots at the base. Secondly you will have to make sure that the pot is large enough for the bulb. A 5-7 inch pot will be recommended to use. Furthermore the use of a potting mix is also highly recommended. Alongside the bulb you should place stalk, it will help the plant to grow. Inserting this stalk can be considered very beneficial for the health of bulb and roots. Water it well and make sure to place the pot in bright, indirect light. As the flower begins to grow it is a good idea to turn the pot every few days, so that it can get uniform exposure to light on all sides. This will help the flower grow straight. Adding fertilizer every 2-3 weeks is also beneficial to the plant. When the flowers fade, cut the flower stalk back to just above the bulb. You should keep watering the plant until it gets dormant in the fall.(http://gardening.about.com/od/floweringbulbs/a/Amaryllis.htm)
